چکیده

Small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) are among the most evolutionarily ancient classes of small RNA. Two experimental screens published in BMC Genomics expand the eukaryotic snoRNA catalog, but many more snoRNAs remain to be found.

Clusters of multiple different small nucleolar RNA genes in plants are expressed as and processed from polycistronic pre-snoRNAs.

Small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) are involved in many aspects of rRNA processing and maturation. In animals and yeast, a large number of snoRNAs are encoded within introns of protein-coding genes. These introns contain only single snoRNA genes and their processing involves exonucleolytic release of the snoRNA from debranched intron lariats. In contrast, some U14 genes in plants are found in small...

The high diversity of snoRNAs in plants: identification and comparative study of 120 snoRNA genes from Oryza sativa.

Using a powerful computer-assisted analysis strategy, a large-scale search of small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) genes in the recently released draft sequence of the rice genome was carried out. This analysis identified 120 different box C/D snoRNA genes with a total of 346 gene variants, which were predicted to guide 135 2'-O-ribose methylation sites in rice rRNAs. Though not exhaustive, this analys...

Components of U3 snoRNA-containing complexes shuttle between nuclei and the cytoplasm and differentially localize in nucleoli: implications for assembly and function.

U3 small nucleolar RNA (snoRNA) and associated proteins are required for the processing of preribosomal RNA (pre-rRNA) and assembly of preribosomes. There are two major U3 snoRNA-containing complexes. The monoparticle contains U3 snoRNA and the core Box C/D snoRNA-associated proteins and an early preribosome-associated complex contains the monoparticle and additional factors that we refer to as...

P30: Are There Anxious Genes?

Anxiety comprises many clinical descriptions and phenotypes. A genetic predisposition to anxiety is undoubted; however, the nature and extent of that contribution is still unclear. Extensive genetic studies of the serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) transporter (5-HTT) gene have revealed how variation in gene expression can be correlated with anxiety phenotypes. Complete genome-wide linkage s...

Noncoding RNA of U87 host gene is associated with ribosomes and is relatively resistant to nonsense-mediated decay.

Non-coding RNAs are involved in many cellular processes. In particular, most of C/D box small nucleolar RNAs (snoRNAs) function as guide RNAs in site-specific 2'-O-methylation of rRNAs. While most snoRNA genes reside in introns of protein-coding genes, here we demonstrated an unusual snoRNA gene occupying an intron of a previously unknown non-protein-coding gene U87HG. We characterized this hos...
